Day 36: Alma 1-2

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all are having a fantastic day!  My kids go back to school tomorrow.  Although I am ready for our daily routine, I am going to miss them at home.  It's been a crazy Summer that went by super fast!  Our highlight was our visit to Utah.  Love that place!

Today we are reading Alma 1-2.  We made it through Mosiah!   Fabulous!  Alma will take a little longer since there is so much to cover.

We start with the story of Nehor and how he introduced the people to priestcraft.  He contended and killed Gideon who had done so much for the people, including helping Alma and his people flee from the Lamanite bondage.  Nehor was sentenced to death but the damage was already done and some of the people became wicked themselves.  The non believers began to persecute the believers.  Here is one of my favorite verses in chapter 1.

Alma 1:25
"Now this was a great trial to those that did stand fast in the faith; nevertheless, they were steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God, and they bore with patience the persecution which was heaped upon them."

Sister Mary Ellen Smoot said:

"We choose to be steadfast and immovable in our faith because of the promises of eternal glory, eternal increase, and continued familyrelationships in the celestial kingdom. We love our families and know that our greatest joy and peace come to us as we watch each family member face the tests of life and make righteous choices to overcome the world.
Occasionally I place my hands on both sides of the face of one of my children or grandchildren when they are doing something that will bring immediate or long-term harm to themselves in the process. I look deeply into their eyes and carefully explain to them how much they are loved and cherished. Then I describe the harm that could result from the actions they have chosen.
I can envision the Savior holding our faces between His hands and pleading with each of us individually to remain steadfast and immovable and faithful to the God who made us."

If we try to stay steadfast and immovable in the gospel we are promised that we can be with our families eternally.  To learn more about Forever Families, click HERE.

I hope you all enjoyed today's reading!  I would love to hear your thoughts!  Talk to you soon.

Hugs,
Robyn
