Day 41: Alma 12-13

Happy Saturday Everyone!

I feel like so much was accomplished today!  We started the morning with family scripture study (which we normally do at night) and then family prayer.  Then Bryan and I were able to run to Sam's Club to get some food for upcoming church activities.  We then picked up my daughter from High School tennis try outs.  Got home, got ready and then headed up to the church for a special baptism of a 16 year old girl.

It's actually a pretty cool story.  Her mom, dad, 2 sisters, and one of her brothers were baptized last  month into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  She learned more about the church and the Plan of Salvation from her mom and she decided to be baptized herself.  The neatest part is that her father was able to baptize her himself, even as a brand new member.  He received the Aaronic Priesthood and was able to perform this ordinance.  What a special baptism this was, indeed.  I felt the Spirit so strong as I was reminded of the personal covenants I also made with my Father in Heaven for my baptism.  To learn more about what we believe as Mormons, click HERE.  I'd love to share more about my faith with you!

Look at the joy and happiness on her mom's face.  That is the true happiness that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings us.  There is no substitution.  It is real happiness and it is free to all.

Today we are reading in Alma chapters 12-13.  Here are some of my favorite verses…

Alma 12:9-11
And now Alma began to expound these things unto him, saying: It is given unto many to know the mysteries of God; nevertheless they are laid under a strict command that they shall not impart only according to the portion of his word which he doth grant unto the children of men, according to the heed and diligence which they give unto him.
10 And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will cnotharden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.
11 And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser portion of the word until they bknow nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell.

Alma 12:9. What Are the “Mysteries of God”?

    President Joseph Fielding Smith
  • President Joseph Fielding Smith explained that the mysteries of God are simply those divine principles of the gospel necessary for our salvation that are not understood by the world: “The Lord has promised to reveal his mysteries to those who serve him in faithfulness. … The Gospel is very simple, so that even children at the age of accountability may understand it. Without question, there are principles which in this life we cannot understand, but when the fulness comes we will see that all is plain and reasonable and within our comprehension. The ‘simple’ principles of the Gospel, such asbaptism, the atonement, are mysteries to those who do not have the guidance of the Spirit of the Lord” .
That is all I have time for tonight.  I hope you have had a wonderful weekend!  Tomorrow is Sunday, my favorite day of the week!  Can't wait to share all that I learn at church.  See you all soon!

Hugs,
Robyn
