Day 4: 1 Nephi 11-12

Hello my dear friends!

I hope you all are having a great week so far!  It's been super busy around here.  Funny that I thought things would slow down in the Summer.  LOL!  I'm just happy to be able to enjoy my crazy busy life with my family.

How is everyone doing with their reading so far?  I am loving it and feeling so inspired.  Today's chapters were amazing and brought such peace to my heart.  I'm excited to hear your thoughts.  Just leave a comment below.  You might need to go to google.com and get a free account to log in for comments.  It's super easy though, I promise!  Even my mom was able to leave a comment!  I'm so happy that my mom (in Utah) and father-in-law (on a mission in California) are reading it with us.

I'm going to jump in today with one of my favorite scriptures.  It has been highlighted for years and every time I read it I remember that there is more to prayer than just talking to God.  We also need to listen and "ponder".

1 Nephi 11:1
"For it came to pass after I had desired to know the things that my father had seen, and believing that the Lord was able to make them known unto me, as I sat pondering in mine heart I was caught away in the Spirit of the Lord…"

Nephi is such a great example to me.  As you all remember in our reading from a couple of days ago, Nephi also had a desire to know for himself if what Lehi (his father) saw in a vision was true.  This time he wants to know what Lehi's vision of the Tree of Life means.  I know that sometimes when I have a desire to know what the Lord has in store for me I offer up a prayer but so often I forget to be still, ponder, and listen so that I can hear the word of the Lord.

We then read how Nephi is given his own vision.  A scripture that pops out to me is in chapter 11 verse 13…
"And it came to pass that I looked and beheld the great city of Jerusalem, and also other cities.  And I beheld the city of Nazareth; and in the city of Nazareth I beheld a virgin, and she was exceedingly fair and white."

I hope that as you read chapter 11 & 12 today you will feel the Spirit.  I love the story of Jesus and how he came to earth through a virgin named Mary.  I'm so grateful for my Savior Jesus Christ who died for me and who rose 3 days later so that I can also live again with my Father in Heaven.  I want to close today with a song by one of my favorite Christian artists, Hilary Weeks, called I Will.  I know that when I hear this song I want to jump out of my chair and also exclaim "I Will" to the world.

Love you all and am so thankful you are reading with me.  Please leave a comment on your thoughts.

  1. I love that song! I'm glad Heavenly Father chose Nephi. Nephi 's testimony is very powerful.

  2. Hi Robin,
I thought that I would join in on the discussion. I love the visual of holding on to the rod and while there may be those that fall away or judge that I can hold on tightly and feel peace and know that I'll be safe. I have to agree with you about pondering after prayer. I am finding that if I'm asking for direction, from Heavenly Father, I try to clear my mind so that my will is neutral and that I can try to feel or know what Heavenly Father wants me to do rather than what I want to do. I love the gospel. I have received great direction in my life because of it. Thanks for all of your hard work on this blog. It is very helpful in reading the Book of Mormon. Shirley
