Hello Everyone!
I've started this new blog so that we can read the Book of Mormon together and discuss our favorite scriptures and teachings. If you are reading this later than the start date, you can join us anytime! Just click on the button on my sidebar to contact me for your very own copy of the Book of Mormon.
I know that most of you have your very own religion and some of you are wanting to know more about the LDS church also known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. By reading this book, it will answer a lot of your questions. Even if you are not interested in the LDS church, it really is a very spiritually uplifting book.
What is the Book of Mormon?
"The Book of Mormon is the word of God, like the Bible. It is Holy Scripture, with form and content similar to that of the Bible. Both books contain God's guidance as revealed to prophets as well as religious histories of different civilizations. While the Bible is written by and about the people in the land of Israel and surrounding areas, and takes place from the creation of the world until shortly after the death of Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon contains the history and God’s dealings with the people who lived in the Americas between approximately 600 BC and 400 AD. The prophets in the Book of Mormon recorded God's dealings with His people, which were compiled by a prophet named Mormon onto gold plates.
Before these faithful Christians perished, their record was safely hidden away. Joseph Smith obtained these ancient records in 1827, and with the gift and power of God Joseph was able to translate the ancient writings into what we have today. The Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, testifies that Jesus Christ is our divine Redeemer and that by living according to His gospel we can find peace in this life and eternal happiness in the life to come."
I would like to refer all of you to go directly to www.mormon.org to answer any questions as you are reading. You can chat with a member live 24 hours a day. I don't think I will be available that often! I would also love to answer any questions you have. Just leave a comment!
I also encourage you to pray as you read this book. I know that as I prayed about this book as I read it, I understood the things that the Lord wanted me to. It was a blessing.
So, I hope you are all ready!! If you don't have time to read every page and verse with us, that is okay! I will let you know my favorite scriptures and anything else that I want to highlight from those chapters.
So excited to do this with you all! Please leave your comments in each post or e-mail me directly with your comments if they are too personal to share.
We will be reading 2 chapters a day (unless there is a large chapter, then we will read only 1 that day). You can check in once a week or once a day. I will add the reading schedule so you can decide how you want to break it up. We should be able to finish this book in 3 months. That is the goal.
I have one assignment for you before Monday. Please read the Introduction and all the pages before 1 Nephi Chapter 1. Then we will read Chapter 1-2 on Monday.
Big hugs!
Robyn

Thank you so much for setting up this book club Robyn. I just found out about this today, but started reading right away after your text, and couldn't put the book down, and read all the way through Chapter 8 (one of my favorite). This is going to be so nice to have a place to discuss with others what we are reading and learning and what a wonderful way of doing some missionary work. I have The Book of Mormon downloaded on my nook, and it's so nice to be able to increase the text size now that I am getting a little "older". Thanks again and God Bless!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mom! So happy you are reading with us! I'm learning so much by studying it, too!
DeleteRobyn,
ReplyDeleteI just have to tell you how much I admire you for setting this up! What an AMAZING way to share the gospel! Especially with the following you have built from MPS. I wish you the best of luck in this endevour. I know Heavenly Father is pleased with your efforts and He will bless you and your family. I have a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon and of the Gospel, but don't know if I could do something like this, so I applaud you, whole-heartedly. What a wonderful example you are to members like me!
Sincerely,
Emily Mugleston
