Day 31: Mosiah 16-18

Happy Wednesday!!

Hope you all had a great day!  I spent the day getting my 11 year old ready for school.  He starts his homeschool program tomorrow.  The rest of the children don't start until Tuesday.  What will I do with all my extra time??  Laundry!  I've got a mountain to catch up on!

I loooooved today's reading!  Mosiah 18 is one of my favorite chapters in the book of Mormon.  While Abinadi is preaching to wicked King Noah, Alma hears the word and believes it.  He is cast out by the king before Abinadi is martyred.  Alma then goes into hiding where he writes down the words that Abinadi preached.  He then starts teaching the word privately and many believe.  I will share some of my favorite scriptures from today.  I have so many that I cannot share all.  I hope you take a minute to really study and read these chapters.  I pray that you will feel the Spirit teach you the things you are seeking to learn.

Mosiah 18:4-7

"4 And it came to pass that as many as did believe him did go forth to a place which was called Mormon, having received its name from the king, being in the borders of the land having been infested, by times or at seasons, by wild beasts.

 5 Now, there was in Mormon a fountain of pure water, and Alma resorted thither, there being near the water a thicket of small trees, where he did hide himself in the daytime from the searches of the king.

 6 And it came to pass that as many as believed him went thither to hear his words.

 7 And it came to pass after many days there were a goodly number gathered together at the place of Mormon, to hear the words of Alma. Yea, all were gathered together that believed on his word, to hear him. And he did teach them, and did preach unto them repentance, and redemption, and faith on the Lord."

The following set of verses are my favorite because they remind me of the covenants I made when I was baptized at the age of 22.  What a great reminder they are of all we are asked to do as true disciples of Jesus Christ.

Mosiah 18:8-11

"8 And it came to pass that he said unto them: Behold, here are the waters of Mormon (for thus were they called) and now, as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God, and to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light;

 9 Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—

 10 Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your hearts, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, that ye will serve him and keep his commandments, that he may pour out his Spirit more abundantly upon you?

 11 And now when the people had heard these words, they clapped their hands for joy, and exclaimed: This is the desire of our hearts."

I can just imagine the group of them clapping their hands with joy and having the desire to be baptized! What a joyous occasion!

Day 30: Mosiah 13-15

Hello Everyone!

Can you believe that we are on Day 30 already?  Neither can I!  I wanted to let you all know that you can read at your own pace.  You do not have to be on the same day that I post.  You can even take a couple of days on one post if you'd like.  Reading the Book of Mormon is very personal.  Pray about it and read it at your own pace.

Today we are still in Mosiah and Abinadi is still addressing wicked King Noah.  He even quotes Isaiah just as Nephi did.  The thought that came to my mind while reading today is that I really need to study Isaiah!  Many nuggets of truth and wisdom in that book.

I will keep this short for today's reading and just share this video by the Living Scriptures.  It might help you better understand the story of Abinadi.

Day 29: Mosiah 10-12

Hello Everyone!

Today we continue reading about the story of Zeniff and his people.  They are still in bondage to the Lamanites.  There are more wars, etc.  Zeniff dies and confers his kingdom upon his son Noah who did not walk in the ways of his father.

"For behold, he did not keepthe commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart.  And he had many wives and concubines.  And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord.  Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness."

"And he laid a tax of one fifth part of all they possessed…"

"And all this did he take to support himself, and his wives and his concubines; and also his priests, and their wives and their concubines; thus he had changed the affairs of the kingdom."

So, in short…… Noah was a WICKED king!

We are then introduced to Abinadi who is a prophet of God and preaches to King Noah and his kingdom.

  Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles highlighted Abinadi’s courage and willingness to obey the Lord: “Abinadi infuriated wicked King Noah with his courageous testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. Eventually this great missionary offered the ultimate sacrifice for his witness and faith but not before his pure testimony touched one believing heart. Alma, one of King Noah’s priests, ‘repented of his sins … , [accepted Jesus as the Christ,] and went about privately among the people, and began to teach the words of Abinadi’ (Mosiah 18:1). Many were converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ as a direct result of Abinadi’s powerfully borne testimony of the Savior, believed by one soul—Alma”.
• I am so grateful for Abinida who was willing to preach the word of God at all costs!  I also love the story of Alma (which we will read about very soon) and how after he heard the testimony of Abinidi before his death how he believed and went about teaching others the things that he heard.  We will later read how Alma baptized many.  All it takes is one person to hear the word of the Lord and generations can be touched and changed forever.

  While serving in the Seventy, Elder Cree-L Kofford discussed Abinadi’s influence and example: “What is there that is so special about Abinadi? Perhaps it was his total obedience as he went, presumably alone, among those whom he must have known would take his life, to deliver the word of the Lord and to cry repentance to the people. Perhaps it is the very fact that we know so little about him, or perhaps it was simply the way with which he faced the adversities which came into his life in such a straightforward, ‘square-to-the world’ way. Whatever the reason, Abinadi was and is special. His life, lived so long ago, still has the power to excite the mind and cause the pulse to pound” (“Abinadi,” in Heroes from the Book of Mormon [1995], 69–70). We know that Abinadi was a man who came from among the people, not from outside their society. He was obviously a righteous man called to warn his own people that if they did not repent, bondage and destruction would follow.

Day 28: Mosiah 6-9

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I absolutely loved church today!  We had a sweet little youth speaker give a talk on Individual Worth and how we are all loved by our Heavenly Father.  It doesn't matter if we are popular by the world's standards, what is important is how we view ourselves and how our Father views us.  We should all remember when we look in the mirror that we are daughters and sons of a Heavenly King and he knows us individually and loves us.  Love it!

Let's start with a sweet song called Consider the Lilies by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  I hope you will feel the Spirit bring peace and love to your heart.


Tonight a dear sister from my Relief Society returned home from active duty overseas.  She was away from her family for over 5 months.  We decided to surprise her by putting signs up in her driveway and welcoming her home.  It was so good to see her safely home with her family.  We have missed her!

Here are my favorite scriptures from today's reading.  I hope you will share your thoughts and feelings about your reading today.

I love the following about King Mosiah.  He worked along with his people so he did not become a burden to them.  What a wonderful way to lead, through serving others.

Mosiah 6:7
"And king Mosiah did cause his people that they should till the earth.  And he also, himself, did till the earth, that thereby he might not become burdensome to his people, that he might do according to that which his father had done in all things.  And there was no contention among all his people for the space of three years."

Mosiah 7:33
"But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage."

Day 27: Mosiah 4-5

Happy Saturday Everyone!

I hope your day was fun-filled!  I was able to play tennis with my husband for about an hour this morning.  He was ahead 3-0 in the beginning but then I ended up winning 6-3.  Love it when that happens.  LOL!  It's always a good time playing sports with my hubby!  This evening I took my daughter out on a little "8th Grade" photo shoot.  I need to take a photography class again because I forgot everything that I learned.  Here are some of my favorite shots from today.

Okay, on to today's reading.  King Benjamin is still addressing the people in his kingdom.  I have a bunch of favorite scriptures today, so I will share them all.  I encourage you to really read and study today's chapters.

Mosiah 4:9-10

9 Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in heaven and in earth; believe that he has all wisdom, and all power, both in heaven and in earth; believe that man doth not comprehend all the things which the Lord can comprehend.

 10 And again, believe that ye must ^arepent of your sins and forsake them, and humble yourselves before God; and ask in sincerity of heart that he would forgive you; and now, if you believe all these things see that ye do them.

Mosiah 4:14-15

14 And ye will not suffer your children that they go hungry, or naked; neither will ye suffer that they transgress the laws of God, and fight and quarrel one with another, and serve the devil, who is the master of sin, or who is the evil spirit which hath been spoken of by our fathers, he being an enemy to all righteousness.

 15 But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another.

Mosiah 4:27

 27 And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order.

Day 26: Mosiah 2-3

Hello Book Club Friends!

I hope you all have had a wonderful week and are ready for the weekend!  For some reason, today has felt like a Saturday to me and I keep thinking tomorrow is Sunday. It will be nice to have a Saturday to get caught up on all the many projects I'm behind on.  (AKA laundry!)

This week as my children are preparing to go back to school, I have been reflecting on how fast the time has gone by.  My sweet little baby boy starts 1st Grade!  I remember wishing for this time, where my days would be full of peace instead of chaos, but now I am wishing for my little baby boy to be at home filling my days with snuggles, giggles, and love.

Here he is at age 3 and now at age 6 in his favorite Puppy Dog jammies!

And now he's off to High School!!

Haha!  Just kidding!  We went to pick up my Sophomore daughter's books yesterday and he was carrying her Chemistry book around.  I had to snap a picture.  (On another note, I can't believe my 10th grader is taking Chemistry!  I never took that class in high school.  She is one smart cookie!)

Okay, today we are reading Mosiah 2-3.  I love this address from King Benjamin.  I hope you will prayerfully read today's chapters and find meaning in his words for you.

Mosiah 2:17

"And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."

I'd like to focus today's post on this scripture.   I love service!  It seems to me that most of our church is built around service and blessing the lives of other people.  I am grateful to know that when I serve others I am serving my Lord.  What a sweet peace that gives me.  We are not to judge other people's circumstances but we are asked to serve.

I'd like to close today by sharing the song "Have I Done Any Good" sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir."  I LOVE this song!  I have the lyrics below if you would like to sing along.  I want you all to know how much I love each of you.  I am thankful for your friendships and sweet prayers that I feel from you.  I also have you in my prayers daily and I hope that your hearts are touched by the Spirit of the Lord as you read from the scriptures and what I have felt inspired to share.  I can honestly say that I feel direction every day with what I should post on here.  The Lord is mindful of each and every one of you.  He knows you personally and loves you.
